A Houston attorney who police have said died after being fatally shot after trying to intervene in a dispute between a customer and an employee at McDonald’s is being mourned by his colleagues at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith.
Jeffrey Limmer, 46, died May 4 after being shot multiple times, the Houston Chronicle reported. Limmer joined Lewis Brisbois in August 2019 and was a member of the firm’s general liability practice. He handled personal injury, first party insurance coverage, and premises liability cases.
David Oubre, the managing partner of the firm’s Houston and New Orleans offices, issued a statement to The Lawbook on Wednesday.
“We at Lewis Brisbois are shocked and heartbroken over the loss of our friend and colleague Jeffrey Limmer. We share our grief with Jeff’s many friends and especially his family, to whom he was so devoted,” the statement reads. “As we come to terms with the reality of Jeff’s passing, we are working to provide all necessary support to our team in Houston and everyone across our firm, as well as offering any assistance possible to Jeff’s family.”
“As a first step in our healing process, Lewis Brisbois will establish a scholarship fund in Jeff’s name at his alma mater, South Texas College of Law. We ask for understanding and privacy as we focus on remembering Jeff’s kindness, generosity and bravery. He was indeed a hero among us.”
Limmer held a bachelor’s degree in government with a minor in business from the University of Texas at Austin and was a 2004 graduate of the South Texas College of Law Houston. When he wasn’t working, Limmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, biking and running, according to his biography on Lewis Brisbois’ website.
