Catherine Callaway James Named Kinder Morgan GC

February 25, 2019 Claire Poole

Houston energy infrastructure giant Kinder Morgan Inc. announced Monday that Catherine Callaway James has become general counsel of the company after the unexpected passing of Curt Moffatt in December.

Catherine Callaway James

Longtime deputy counsel Adam Forman had been serving as the interim general counsel until the company could find a replacement.

James was previously general counsel of Dynegy, which was sold to Dallas-based Vistra last year for $1.7 billion. She turned to Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom for work on that deal with a team out of New York.

Before Dynegy, the University of Texas-trained lawyer was general counsel at NRG Texas and Reliant Energy and worked in the legal departments of Calpine, Coastal Power and Chevon.

Kinder Morgan president Kim Dang said in a statement that James’ extensive legal experience in the energy sector made her a good fit for the position.

Moffatt had been general counsel of Kinder Morgan since 2014 and was planning to retire in August. The company said Dec. 31 that he suffered a cardiac arrest and died on Dec. 28 while spending the holidays with his family.
