Baker Botts Signs Tax Partner from Orrick

May 1, 2019 Claire Poole & Brooks Igo

Baker Botts has added depth to its tax practice by bringing on Houston partner Barbara Spudis de Marigny, the firm announced on Wednesday.

De Marigny focuses on tax structuring for M&A transactions in the energy sector. She was part of a seven-member team that joined Orrick’s Houston office back in 2016.

Only three members of that team remain at the firm, including Jonathan Ayre, Joe Roger and David Ronn. Carlos Treistman jumped to Greenberg Traurig in February and Bill Parish and Rodrigo Dominguez moved to White & Case last month.

De Marigny was part of the Orrick team that advised the conflicts committee of Delek Logistics’ general partner on its purchase of storage terminals from affiliate Delek US Holdings in March of last year for $315 million.

She also assisted Spectrum Energy Partners-backed Caprock Midstream on a preferred equity investment in 2017 from Global Infrastructure Partners Capital Solutions Fund amounting to $250 million.

Over the past decade, De Marigny’s career has also included stops at McGuireWoods, Gardere and KPMG. She has her law degree from the University of Virginia.
