At The Texas Lawbook, we know that keeping up with the ever-evolving world of M&A in Texas requires not just depth, but also timeliness, hence this Corporate Deal Tracker Roundup column that runs every Monday.
Now we’re expanding our popular CDT M&A rankings from twice a year to a new quarterly format. Beginning next month, our CDT rankings for law firms and lawyers (M&A and capital markets) will be published four times annually, offering Lawbook subscribers a more frequent and detailed look at the lawyers leading and advising deals in Texas.
With deal flow fluctuating from quarter to quarter, we’ve taken feedback from our subscribers to begin reporting our exclusive CDT rankings — along with those for billion-dollar deals and other M&A and capital markets data — at the conclusion of each quarter, providing timely insight into who’s leading the charge in transactions across the state.
Sounds simple, right? Hold on: We need your help.
To make this shift, we are implementing new deadlines for deal submissions. Firms and lawyers who wish to be considered for the first quarter and year-end Lawbook leaderboards for M&A and CapM must enter all of their deals by the following deadlines:
FIRST QUARTER: April 7 (5 p.m.)
This is the submission deadline for deals between Jan. 1 and March 31. Deals must be received by this deadline to be included in the first quarter rankings and Lawbook leaderboards and be eligible for the annual rankings. Publication of the quarterly law firm rankings and leaderboards will begin April 28.
SECOND QUARTER: July 7 (5 p.m.)
Submission deadline for deals between April 1 and June 30. Publication of second quarter and first half 2025 law firm rankings and Lawbook leaderboards will begin July 28.
THIRD QUARTER: Oct. 6 (5 p.m.)
Submission deadline for deals between July 1 and Sept. 30. Publication of third quarter law firm rankings and Lawbook leaderboards will begin Oct. 27.
FOURTH QUARTER: Jan. 5, 2026 (5 p.m.)
Submission deadline for deals between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31. Publication of fourth quarter and the annual 2025 law firm rankings and Lawbook leaderboards will begin Jan. 26.
Late submissions will no longer be eligible for quarterly or annual Lawbook rankings and qualified deals will be entered in the order they are received for eventual inclusion in the CDT database.
The standards for submissions remain the same. Deals are credited based on the work of a firm’s Texas lawyers — in other words, where the lawyer is located, not the company. This means that it doesn’t matter whether a Texas-based lawyer led a deal for a Houston company or a Chinese company; the lawyer and his or her law firm will still receive appropriate credit.
As always, special attention is given to deals that are “Texas-led” — deals led by Texas lawyers for firm clients who are principals in the deal. A “lead lawyer” (or “co-lead lawyer”) leads the deal for the entire firm (not just the firm’s Texas office or a particular practice). A “principal” is a buyer, seller or target in a particular M&A transaction. Representation of ancillary parties (i.e., financial advisors, conflict committees, etc.) qualify for the overall firm rankings but do not qualify as Texas-led. Likewise, advising as lead for a particular practice specialty (i.e., tax, employee benefits, anti-trust, etc.) does not qualify as “Texas-led.”
For more information about how deals qualify for the quarterly and annual rankings, click here or contact Christi Trammell at christi.trammell@texaslawbook.net.
The best way to ensure credit is to submit your deals on a timely basis for publication in the CDT Roundup. Just email your news release or a short blurb containing the date of the deal, a brief description, the lead lawyers and their offices, as well as any participating Texas lawyers that advised on the deal to CDTRoundup@texaslawbook.net.
If it’s published in the weekly CDT Roundup, the deal is automatically entered in the CDT database. But it has to be timely. If the deal is more than a few weeks old (and the quarterly submission deadline hasn’t passed), you can use our deal submission portal.
The Lawbook no longer accepts spreadsheets sent in by individual firms or lawyers to be processed for the CDT database. All deals must be sent as noted above. Any firm or lawyer that previously submitted 2025 deals via spreadsheets between Jan. 1 and March 10 will be processed, but moving forward, they won’t be accepted.
If you’re interested in having the Lawbook Corporate Deal Tracker team give a presentation or information session on rankings, data or our M&A coverage, email us at CDTRoundup@texaslawbook.net.
And if you haven’t done so already, be sure to connect with The Lawbook’s new reporter, Nick Peck, who covers M&A and restructuring. He can be reached at nick.peck@texaslawbook.net.

Now, let’s move on to last week’s deals.
The week ending March 8 saw 7 deals for $2.3 billion. On the surface that’s only slightly less than 11 deals valued at $3 billion over the prior week. But this week saw only five M&A transactions valued at $224 million compared to 10 last week for $2.55 billion. Moreover, the bulk of this week’s deal value comes in the form of a $2 billion loan for the construction of data centers.
And last year at this time? There were 23 deals valued at $4.7 billion.
