(May 9) – The Dallas Bar Association (DBA) hosted its 23rd Annual Pro Bono Golf Classic last week at Brookhaven Country Club and raised more than $40,000 for the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP).

The money raised by more than 40 law firms, foundations, corporations and individuals will be used to help provide free legal services to low-income residents. The DVAP, a joint initiative of the DBA and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, serves approximately 3,475 Dallas families.

Treyson Brooks, chair of the DBA’s golf tournament committee, said the 106 golfers that participated in the annual tournament were the most in several years.

“Last year, the weather was terrible,” said Brooks, a litigation attorney at Quilling Selander. “We were out there in forty degree weather. But this year, it was beautiful.

“It went off without a hitch.”

While the tournament recognized winning teams in four different categories, the foursome of Rance Bryson, David Vereeke, Grady Chandler and Zack Miller took home the day’s top prize – 1st Place Gross 1st Flight.

Other winners included:

– Ed Fiducia, Tony Bautista, Chris Joe and Sean Newbold – 1st Place Gross 2nd Flight

– Peter Hagen, Dennis Muron, Larry Bowman and Hunter Allen – 1st Place Net 1st Flight

– Matt Kellogg, EJ Janik, PJ Hines and Will Pryor – 1st Place Net 2nd Flight

Meanwhile, the State Bar of Texas is kicking off its annual meeting on June 19 amid controversy over its decision to disinvite the NAACP president from speaking at its Bar Leaders Recognition Luncheon. Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas, Wallace B. Jefferson, will deliver a keynote address commemorating the legal history and significance of Juneteenth. And we highlight other upcoming Juneteenth celebrations, as well. June 13, 2025Krista Torralva
