Egan Nelson Adds Veteran Corporate Transaction Partner from A&O Shearman

March 7, 2025 Nick Peck

Dallas’ Egan Nelson announced Thursday that it has added Dallas-based attorney R. Scott Cohen as a partner within its practice.

Cohen joins Egan Nelson after spending the past five years at A&O Shearman, where he served as a partner and of counsel, primarily advising clients in the energy, technology, manufacturing and consumer product spaces.

“After a landmark 2024 where our firm delivered record performance, we’re thrilled to welcome Scott to our winning team known for maximizing client outcomes. Scott’s deep expertise guiding clients through complex transactions across industries, coupled with his leadership in the Texas legal community, makes him an invaluable addition to our team,” Shane Egan, managing partner of Egan Nelson, said in a recent release.

Cohen graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Business in 1976 and received his law degree from SMU’s Dedman School of Law in 1979.

After law school, Cohen joined Johnson & Gibbs, serving as a partner there for over eight years.

Following his time at Johnson & Gibbs, he moved to Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where he worked for over 21 years as a partner before moving to Jones Day in 2011. Cohen then spent nine years as a partner at Jones Day before eventually joining A&O Shearman in 2020.

Cohen, who has over 40 years of comprehensive legal experience, has gained a deep knowledge of the transaction space from his legal career stops. Throughout his career, his primary focus has been advising clients in international and domestic M&A, corporate governance and restructuring matters.

Outside of his extensive experience in transactional matters, Cohen has also helped to shape business law throughout the state. During his law career, he has served as a founding member and director of the Texas Business Law Foundation and as chairman of the Corporation Laws Committee of the Texas State Bar.

Egan Nelson will look to leverage Cohen’s deep experience as the boutique continues expanding and enhancing its corporate transaction practice.

“Egan Nelson has quickly become a premier boutique firm for corporate transactions, and I’m excited to join a team that is redefining the space. I look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued growth and success,” Cohen said in a recent release.
