Eversheds Sutherland Names Phyllis Young Head of Texas Finance

March 20, 2026 Jason Philyaw

Eversheds Sutherland named Phyllis Y. Young partner and head of the multinational firm’s Texas finance team within its U.S. Finance Practice Group.

“In the complex financial realm, Phyllis brings strong insight into clients’ specific challenges and opportunities, using her extensive knowledge of financial structures and industry developments to facilitate transactions that advance client growth and strategic objectives,” according to David Wender, group leader of the firm’s finance practice and co-head of its U.S. restructuring and insolvency team. “Her comprehensive perspective aligns with our growth objectives and will help us identify new innovative financial solutions for our clients as business transformation accelerates.”

The firm said Young is the seventh attorney to join the U.S. Finance Practice Group since 2025, and she comes to Eversheds after more than six years at McGuireWoods and 15 years at Akin Gump. Eversheds said Young will be based in Houston and has substantial energy-sector experience, representing energy companies and investment funds.

“I am excited to join Eversheds Sutherland and collaborate with outstanding attorneys across the finance team and other highly regarded practice areas known for their legal skills and impactful work in sophisticated areas of finance,” Young said in a news release. “Additionally, the firm’s strong commitment to the Texas market provides a strong platform for serving my clients and pursuing new opportunities in this dynamic business environment.”

Eversheds Sutherland Global Co-CEO and U.S. Chief Executive Lino Mendiola said Young “is a top-notch practitioner whose depth of experience in finance and restructuring will be a significant resource in meeting our clients’ needs.”

“Given her strong connection to Texas markets, she is also a strategic addition for our clients that require Texas-centric finance support in energy and other regional growth areas,” Mendiola said.

AREAS OF FOCUS
Young provides counsel to funds, commercial banks, public and private companies, borrowers, investors and energy companies on financial restructurings, mergers and acquisitions and other corporate matters. She has served as outside general counsel to clients in the oil refining and drilling sectors, as well as the steel distribution industry.
