Rounding out appointments to the newly created business courts, Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Friday Sofia Androgué and Grant Dorfman will be the inaugural appointees to the Houston division.
Androgué is a partner at Diamond McCarty and is the founder and editor of the Texas Business Litigation Treatise. Dorfman currently serves as a visiting judge and formerly served as a deputy first assistant attorney general under Ken Paxton. He has also previously served as a district judge in Harris County.
Their appointments are effective Sept. 1 and expire Sept. 1, 2026.
Earlier this week, the governor appointed judges to the Fifteenth Court of Appeals as well as the other business courts in Austin, Fort Worth, Dallas and San Antonio.
A recipient of full academic scholarships as an undergraduate and law student, Androgué holds a bachelor’s degree in English and legal studies from Rice University and is a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center. She has been recognized for her public service efforts by the city of Houston, which proclaimed a “Sofia Androgué Day” in her honor.
Androgué is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Owner President Management Program.
Dorfman holds a bachelor’s degree in honors history from Brown University, a master’s of studies in history and political philosophy from Oxford University and is a graduate of Yale Law School. He has served as judge of the 334th district court and the 129th district court, both in Harris County. Before he worked for the attorney general’s office, Dorfman was of counsel with the law firm Sheehy, Ware, Pappas & Grubbs and served as senior in-house counsel to Nabors Industries.
