February 27, 2026 Krista Torralva

Coming up, the Association of Corporate Counsel DFW Chapter and the Texas General Counsel Forum will mark International Women’s Day on March 8 with a screening of A Law Unto Themselves: How Women Lawyers of Dallas Transformed Law and Community – Together. Produced by the Dallas Women Lawyers Association and J.L. Turner Legal Association, the film is currently available only through small screenings hosted by member organizations, making this an exclusive opportunity to view it.

Also in this edition of P.S., the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston celebrated the addition of former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman to the nameplate at Wright Close Barger & Guzman and Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr offered a look at its 2025 charitable giving. The Texas Lawbook invites law firms and corporate legal departments to share their annual financial contributions to public service and the community for feature consideration.

Documentary Screening Highlights Dallas Women’s Legal History

The Association of Corporate Counsel DFW Chapter and the Texas General Counsel Forum are celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8 with a screening of A Law Unto Themselves: How Women Lawyers of Dallas Transformed Law and Community – Together.

The film, produced by the Dallas Women Lawyers Association and J.L. Turner Legal Association, traces the history of North Texas women lawyers over seven decades and features interviews with about 20 women attorneys.

Currently, the film is only available through small screenings hosted by member organizations while it is being considered for film festivals. The Texas Lawbook reviewed the film in this article.

Following the screening, the associations will host a Q&A with executive producers Chelsea Hilliard and Kandace Walter, who were presidents of DWLA and J.L. Turner Legal Association, respectively, when the film was released. The event is scheduled to take place from 2 – 4 p.m. at Cinemark West Plano.

Texas General Counsel Forum members may register to attend at this link, while members of ACC DFW may register at this link. Donations may also be made at the event and online to support scholarships for women lawyers and law students through the Dallas Women Lawyers Association and the J.L. Turner Legal Association Foundation.

Since its debut last year, the documentary has been screened in festivals across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, earning awards from the State Bar of Texas and the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations.

Former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman is a name partner at her new firm, Wright Close Barger & Guzman.

Hispanic Bar Association of Houston Celebrates Eva Guzman’s New Role as Name Partner

The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston on Tuesday celebrated former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman’s move to name partner at Wright Close Barger & Guzman during a reception at the firm’s office.

Guzman, who serves on HisBA’s Advisory Board, made history as the first Latina appointed to the Texas Supreme Court and the first Latina elected to statewide office in Texas.

Guzman stepped down from the bench in 2021 and initially joined Chamberlain Hrdlicka before moving to Wright Close as a partner in 2022.

Munsch Hardt Showcases 2025 Giving, Community Partnerships

Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr recently released an overview of its 2025 charitable giving, highlighting civic and philanthropic engagement across its three Texas markets of Austin, Dallas and Houston, though the firm did not disclose total giving amounts.

In Austin, the firm supported CASA of Travis County, which trains and supports volunteers to serve as court-appointed special advocates for children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

In Dallas, Munsch Hardt attorneys and staff donated to the North Texas Food Bank, which distributes donated and purchased food through nearly 500 partner agencies across 12 counties, serving hundreds of thousands of children, seniors and families across the Dallas-Fort Worth area each year.

Meanwhile, in Houston, the firm continued its annual tradition of contributing to the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation’s Adopt-An-Angel program, helping ensure vulnerable children received holiday gifts, including bicycles, toys, clothing and school supplies.

Beyond its regional partnerships, the firm reported that its 2025 giving also included donations supporting Kerr County following the July flooding.

“Munsch Hardt remains deeply committed to making a meaningful civic and charitable impact and is grateful to its attorneys and staff for contributing their time, resources and talents in service of others,” the firm said in a news release. “From sponsoring philanthropic events and funding scholarships for underserved students to supporting military families and providing pro bono legal services, the Firm and its group of shareholders, associates and staff are passionate about strengthening the communities where they work, live and serve across Texas.”

Joint Pro Bono Efforts with In-house Counsel

The Texas Lawbook plans to run a monthly column on pro bono initiatives handled jointly by corporate in-house counsel and their outside lawyers. These can be individual cases, such as asylum or veterans’ benefits matters or broader efforts to provide legal services to those who cannot afford them.
