Law Rocks Dallas Sets $94K Fundraising Record

Law Rocks Dallas, a “battle of the bands” style fundraiser for local charities, raised a record-setting $94,000 during its concert last week at Trees in Deep Ellum.

Just South of Nowhere, led by Baker Botts partner Doug Kubehl, once again took home top honors, raising money for Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support.

No Recourse

Also reclaiming their title, No Recourse — an all-attorney band comprised of Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann lawyers — won the Judge’s Choice Award. The band raised funds for the Cannenta Foundation.

A Hustle & Heart Award went to Ignorantia Legis, featuring Carrington Coleman partner Mark Castillo and his son, singer and guitarist Aidan Castillo. They raised funds for The Jensen Project.

A Music Matters Grant from the Law Rocks organization was awarded to the advisory board for the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

Music Matters grant

Law Rocks Dallas has grown rapidly since the tour first rolled into town three years ago, when it raised $47,000. The total climbed to $82,000 last year before reaching this year’s record.

Other bands who rocked the stage were Ring the Bell Nunnally, featuring lawyers from Bell Nunnally and raising money for Head Start of Greater Dallas; Suburban CrimeSpree, with lawyers from Akin and Addus HomeCare raising funds for Booker T. Washington; T.R.O., featuring lawyers from Winstead, Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Wray, Willet & Stoffer and fundraising for Rocking for A Model Patient; and Vinyl Siren, featuring lawyers from Scheef & Stone supporting The Concilio.

Event sponsors were Winstead, Baker Botts, Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann, Secretariat, Akin, Bell Nunnally, Carrington Coleman, Saltu, Scheef & Stone, Thomson Reuters and Trustpoint.One.

Law Rocks Houston will take the stage March 26 at White Oak Music Hall. More information may be found at this link.

Houston Volunteer Lawyers Honors Pro Bono Partners

Chevron, Hunton Andrews Kurth, Porter Hedges, DLA Piper and Jeremy Berman of Crowe Dunlevy were honored for their pro bono work with Houston Volunteer Lawyers during the Houston Bar Foundation Annual Luncheon on Feb. 17.

“These awardees exemplify what it means to show up for our community and expand access to justice in powerful and lasting ways,” HVL said in announcing its 2026 HVL Pro Bono Awards recipients.

Chevron’s legal team was recognized for its commitment to veterans. Last year, the legal department sponsored a wills clinic serving 12 veterans and four Veterans Legal Advice Clinics.

Hunton Andrews Kurth handled 63 active pro bono cases with HVL last year and donated more than 2,000 hours to the organization. The firm also ran a Pro Bono Month Campaign supporting HVL, including CLEs and LegalLine sponsorships, achieved 100 percent participation in HVL’s New Associate Bootcamp and supported a pro bono fellowship. “Their leadership reflects a firmwide culture of service,” HVL said.

Porter Hedges took an “all hands on deck” approach, hosting an annual summer associate wills clinic and sponsoring LegalLine, HVL said. The firm also participated in the organization’s Record Clearing and Estate Planning projects.

DLA Piper co-sponsored two clinics last year — LegalLine and a Veterans Clinic — and handled 16 active pro bono cases involving guardianship, naturalization, record clearing, name changes and tax matters. “Their broad engagement across so many practice areas reflects a strong and ongoing commitment to HVL’s clients,” the organization said.

Berman worked on 30 pro bono cases for HVL clients last year. “He consistently says yes when there is a need and approaches each case with care, generosity, and professionalism,” HVL said. “His steady dedication and heart for service truly embody the spirit of pro bono.”

Susman Godfrey Houston Partner Graduates from Inaugural Latina Leadership Program

Susman Godfrey Houston Partner Krisina Zuñiga recently graduated from the inaugural Hispanic National Bar Association Latina Commission’s ELLA Leadership Program.

The six-month professional development program is designed for mid-career Latina lawyers at a critical stage when the advancement gap for attorneys often widens. Zuñiga was promoted to partner in 2023.

The program graduated 25 lawyers, including Zuñiga, who also serves on the board of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston. She is a commercial litigator representing plaintiffs and defendants in disputes spanning patent, trade secret, antitrust, class action, insurance, fraud and breach of contract matters.

A native of Laredo, Zuñiga earned her law degree from Stanford Law School.

Attorney Jim Mueller Donates $30K Honoring Michael Hurst to Support Pro Bono Legal Services

Attorney Jim Mueller and the Mueller Family Law Group have made a $30,000 donation to the Equal Access to Justice Campaign supporting the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program of the Dallas Bar Association in honor of Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann partner Michael Hurst.

“I have been fortunate in my career to give back, and I hope that this donation honoring Michael’s work will help touch thousands of lives,” said Mueller, chair-elect of the Texas Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.

Hurst, a former DBA president, has demonstrated a career-long commitment to supporting pro bono legal services, the firm said in announcing the donation.

“For my entire career, I have been emphatic that legal aid ensures that everyone has access to our courts and our superior system of justice,” said Hurst, a former DBA president.  “I appreciate Mr. Mueller acknowledging that legal aid is that important pillar of justice, and for making this generous contribution in my honor.”
