Texas Assistant AG Joins Hunton AK’s Houston Office

January 17, 2024 Jeff Schnick

Longtime environmental enforcement attorney David Terry has left the Texas Attorney General’s office for a position at Hunton Andrews Kurth in Houston.

As counsel at Hunton, Terry’s focus will be “environmental and natural resources practice on litigation and regulatory matters,” according to a news release. Since 2016, Terry has served in the Texas AG’s office as Assistant Attorney General, Environmental Protection Division. Before that, he was a litigation attorney for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, a role he assumed in October 2012.

Terry, who received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, managed approximately 30 civil enforcement matters in his time as assistant AG, primarily referred by TCEQ. During his time at TCEQ, he also delivered 90 enforcement actions, according to the release.

At Hunton, Terry will also “offer compliance, permitting, and transactional counseling to clients in the energy, chemicals, and manufacturing sectors,” according to the release.

“Leveraging more than a decade of experience as an enforcement attorney with the Texas Attorney General’s office and TCEQ, David adds a valuable perspective to the firm’s nationally recognized environmental practice,” said Deidre Duncan, head of Hunton Andrews Kurth’s environmental practice. “We are thrilled to welcome David to our team.”
