Veteran Houston Partner Jumps from Latham to Simpson

June 24, 2025 Jason Philyaw

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett said Tuesday that it has added Bryce Kaufman to its growing Houston office to focus on energy and infrastructure.

Kaufman joins the global banking and credit practice to help clients seeking multilayered financing solutions, according to Alexandra Kaplan, co-head of the practice for the New York-based firm. He joins Simpson Thacher following nearly a dozen years at Latham & Watkins in Houston.

“Bryce is well-respected in the market and is known for offering strategic, forward-looking counsel, and we are pleased to welcome him to the firm” said Brian Steinhardt, co-head of the practice, which Simpson Thacher said ranked as one of the largest based on volume and value of deals in 2024.

“Simpson Thacher is known for developing innovative, bespoke financing solutions for key players across the energy and infrastructure sectors,” Kaufman said. “I am excited to join the team to help guide clients on these important matters.”

Matt Einbinder, co-managing partner of Houston office said Kaufman’s extensive experience is “an excellent fit for our premier transactional platform.”

In May, Fern Han joined the Simpson Thacher global banking and credit team. Einbinder said the addition of Han and Kaufman “bolsters the exceptional depth of our market-leading energy and infrastructure financing practice.”

The Simpson Thacher Houston office advises clients on battery storage, digital infrastructure, energy exploration and production, energy transition, midstream, oil field services, power, refining and petrochemicals, renewable energy, utilities and water infrastructure.

Kaufman earned a juris doctorate from Stanford Law School and holds a bachelor’s degree in History and International Studies from Yale University. Kaufman spent a year in Turkey as a grad student after earning Yale’s Fox International Fellowship. He is admitted to practice in Texas, New York and California.
