(June 27) – Prominent trial lawyer James Renard, who represents rapper 50 Cent and other high-profile clients, has joined Norton Rose Fulbright as a partner.
“I intend to practice law for a couple more decades and I decided that I wanted to do it on a global platform,” Renard said. “Getting to do it with a litigation powerhouse that has lawyers on every continent was a deciding factor. The added opportunities and possibilities of an international law firm intrigued me.”
Renard spent the first three years of his career doing insurance defense work at Vial Hamilton. In 1984, he met Bill Brewer and John Bickel, who had just started their own litigation boutique. Over the next 32 years, Renard developed the reputation as one of the best trial lawyers in Texas.
“I’m proud of what we accomplished over three decades,” Renard said of his time at what is now called Brewer Attorneys & Counselors, where he served on the firm’s executive management committee.
The University of Texas School of Law graduate also helped launch the Brewer Foundation and the Brewer Storefront, the firm’s community service legal affiliate. He was part of the team that successfully challenged the unconstitutional immigration ordinances proposed by the City of Farmers Branch.
Renard is perhaps best recognized for his representation of Curtis Jackson (50 Cent). He advised the rapper and Vitamin Water entrepreneur in filing for bankruptcy last year and is defending him in a $7 million sex tape dispute.
