Bill Nelson-Led Capital Markets Group Officially Joins Shearman

December 18, 2018 Brooks Igo

Shearman & Sterling officially announced this week that it has bolstered its capital markets practice in Houston with a team of four attorneys from Haynes and Boone led by partners Bill Nelson and Kristina Trauger.

Last month, The Texas Lawbook reported Nelson’s move to Shearman after practicing for 20 years at Haynes and Boone. He and Trauger have joined Shearman with counsel Judy Little and John Menke.

According to Shearman’s announcement, Nelson and Trauger will be tasked with building out the firm’s capital markets practice in Houston. Nelson, who sat on Haynes and Boone’s board of directors and co-chaired its capital markets practice, will lead Shearman’s Houston office.

“The team’s proven track record in capital markets and M&A in the oil and gas sector as well as other industries complements our existing oil and gas transactional team to provide our clients with further market-leading capabilities,” Hugh Tucker, head of Shearman’s Texas practice, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have the team join Shearman & Sterling.”

Shearman opened its Houston office in May – after entering the Texas market in Austin a couple of months prior – with a team of six partners. The office now has nine partners and 22 attorneys total.
