An intellectual property team from Ferguson Braswell Fraser Kubasta has jumped to Lathrop GPM, the Kansas City-based firm announced Tuesday.
The group is led by partner Robert Lord and includes attorneys Annemarie Vicere, Ted Fay and Ben King. They are being joined by patent agent Roxana Malladi, paralegal Jamie Hathaway and specialists Kate Ohale and Hannah Ochoa.
Lord, a graduate of Baylor Law School, focuses on portfolio management, intellectual property aspects of due diligence, client counseling, licensing, patent prosecution, and handling contested matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Federal Courts, and the International Trade Commission. As a software developer before practicing law, Lord worked on programming projects for the Internal Revenue Service, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Baylor University, and Apple Computer Company.
The move is a bit of a reboot for Lathrop GPM’s Dallas office, which opened in 2019 with a team led by Robert Thackston, who was a name partner at Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young. That team included Sam Garcia, Ryan Hale and Lanita Morgan. Only Garcia remains at the firm. Thackston has since moved to Nelson Mullins, while Morgan and Hale have landed at Resnick & Louis and Curnutt & Hafer, respectively.
In the last two years, Lathrop GPM has added to its Dallas ranks franchise partner Carlos White, who is the franchise impact ambassador for the Office of Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson; Chicago IP lawyer Richard Beem and one of his associates Alex Shtraym; and counsel Ian Furman from K&L Gates.
Lathrop GPM managing partner Cameron Garrison said the “exceptional patent attorneys” joining from FBFK are “well-known in the high tech and engineering industry and have strong ties to both Texas and California markets.
“As the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex continues to expand, the IP and transactions work will also grow, and Lathrop GPM will be there to help companies compete in business and protect their interests,” Garrison said in the firm’s announcement.
