Baker Botts said Wednesday it has recruited a pair of patent litigation partners from Orrick, including Houston-based Jeffrey Johnson.
Joining Johnson is Robert Benson, who led Orrick’s Taiwan practice. Baker Botts managing partner Danny David said Johnson and Benson’s “stellar reputations” in the U.S. and Asia are “perfect complements to our global practice.”
Christa Brown-Sanford, chair of the Baker Botts IP department, added that her new colleagues “have earned the trust of global corporations, particularly those headquartered in Asia.”
Johnson, who holds a doctorate in engineering from Texas A&M and a law degree from the University of Houston, worked as a scientist at Lynntech before pivoting to the practice of law. His patent experience spans the technology (semiconductors, integrated circuits, electrical devices and LED technology), energy and life sciences industries.
Over the last three years, nine of the 15 appearances Johnson has made for clients have been in the Eastern District or Western District of Texas. Four of the 15 matters have involved representing Taiwan-based Realtek Semiconductor.
Prior to his eight-year tenure with Orrick, Johnson practiced at DLA Piper and Pillsbury.
Benson was at Orrick for the last dozen years. Alongside his legal practice, Benson also started a non-profit called Arms of Love International that established and operated children’s homes in Nicaragua and the Philippines, providing custodial care for more than 200 abandoned and abused children and youth over the past 25 years and supporting them while pursuing a higher education.
