Sidley has hired David Monteiro as a partner in its Dallas office, bolstering the firm’s banking and financial services practice, the firm announced Tuesday in a news release.
Monteiro brings extensive experience to the firm’s M&A and private equity group, advising on complex consumer protection issues and investigations, according to the release.
He was previously with Morgan Lewis, where he worked for more than a decade and most recently served as the firm’s Dallas office managing partner. Earlier in his career, Monteiro was an enforcement attorney with the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection for its financial practices division, leaving that role in 2009 to become a law clerk for Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Catharina Haynes. He then spent almost four years with K&L Gates in Dallas as an associate for its consumer financial services group before joining Morgan Lewis.
Joining Monteiro in Sidley’s Dallas office will be senior managing associate Michael Cumming, who was an associate at Morgan Lewis for over a decade and also spent time at K&L Gates.
AREAS OF FOCUS
Monteiro focuses on advising financial services companies such as banks, broker-dealers, fintechs, and their investors on complex consumer protection issues, according to the release. He represents clients in investigations, enforcement actions and high-risk supervisory matters before federal and state regulators and assists with compliance and risk mitigation under consumer-protection laws.
