Massachusetts-based Desktop Metal Operating and 15 of its affiliated companies have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Southern District of Texas.
The maker of industrial 3D printing, specializing in metal printing technology, states that it has between $1 billion and $10 billion in liabilities owed to between 1,000 and 5,000 creditors.
Those creditors include two national law firms — Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan ($29.2 million) and Latham & Watkins ($8.6 million).
Desktop has hired Houston attorney Benjamin L. Wallen of Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones as its lead legal advisor in the bankruptcy.
Desktop’s board of directors has hired Weil Gotshal & Manges partner Gabriel Morgan in Houston as its legal advisor.
The Chapter 11 has been assigned to Houston Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez.
