iHeartMedia Taps Kirkland, Jackson Walker as Debtor’s Counsel

March 16, 2018 Mark Curriden

iHeartMedia General Counsel Robert Walls chose Kirkland & Ellis and Jackson Walker to guide the San Antonio-based radio giant through corporate restructuring.

iHeartMedia filed Thursday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Houston for protection under Chapter 11.

Filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission show that iHeart Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary Lauren E. Dean is also playing a significant role in the reorganization.

iHeart disclosed last year that it had hired Chicago-based Kirkland and Dallas-based Jackson Walker to be its lead legal advisors in the restructuring.

None of the Houston-based lawyers for Kirkland are actively participating in the bankruptcy proceedings. The Kirkland team is largely out of the firm’s Chicago and New York offices.

For Jackson Walker, Houston partner Patricia B. Tomasco is leading the team.

Patricia B. Tomasco

Tomasco, a South Texas College of Law alumni, has represented several high-profile Texas companies in bankruptcy, including Linn Energy, Midstates Petroleum and El Paso Children’s Hospital.

Jackson Walker partner Matthew D. Cavenaugh, who offices in Houston, and associate Jennifer F. Wertz, who practices in Austin, are also advising iHeart. Cavenaugh clerked for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Marvin Isgur, who has been assigned to handle the iHeart case.

A handful of other law firms, including Jones Day, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, Arnold & Porter and Weil, Gotshal & Manges are representing an array of creditors and interested parties.
