Anna Butler and Rob Schneider have been named to new managing editor roles at the Dallas Business Journal.
Butler will run the operational side of the newsroom, including managing the reporting staff and DallasBusinessJournal.com. Schneider will manage the weekly print edition and editorial events, along with creative and data operations.
“I’m excited to step into this new role and shape our focus on delivering local business intelligence,” said Butler. “We have a talented group of reporters in the most diverse business market in Texas. We’re looking forward to providing more exclusive news to our subscribers across all of our platforms.”
Butler joined the Business Journal in October 2015 from Austin-based Andrew Harper, a luxury travel publication. She is a seventh-generation Texan and Austin native, plus a 2011 graduate of Wake Forest University and 2013 graduate of the International Culinary Center, formerly the French Culinary Institute. She previously served as the Business Journal’s assistant managing editor and as associate editor, a role that included overseeing editorial events.
Schneider was hired in April 2014 and previously served as the Business Journal’s creative director. He will manage the newsroom’s creative and data team, which includes the annual Book of Lists. Schneider will also oversee the editorial aspects of the Business Journal’s signature events, such as Women in Business, Middle Market 50 and more.
Before joining the Business Journal, Schneider was presentation director of the Dallas Morning News. He graduated from Truman State University in 1995.
“I want to continue to build more opportunities for exclusive journalism into our events,” said Schneider. “Every year, independent judges select some of the top executives in North Texas to be recognized at our events by their peers and the community. There are so many stories we will be able dive into with these dynamic business leaders before, during and after the event itself.”
Editor Jeff Schnick said having two managing editors will make his newsroom more nimble when responding to the needs of one of the fastest-growing economies in the country.
“Anna and Rob are both excellent journalists and we’re lucky to have them,” he said. “The beneficiaries of their expertise will be our subscribers. We’re going to be able to provide news faster, and in more volume, as a result of their effort. Both of them are experienced editors who understand our mission: to provide local business news you can’t get anywhere else.”
