T&K Picks Up Project Finance Partner in Houston

July 25, 2019 Brooks Igo

Thompson & Knight announced this week that Houston project finance partner George Humphrey has joined the firm from Orrick.

Humphrey is T&K’s second partner addition to the firm’s Houston office this summer. Veteran energy tax lawyer Louis Jenull lateraled over from Jones Day in June.

“With George’s focus on project financing related to petrochemical and renewable energy – in addition to Louis Jenull’s tax experience in the energy industry – our two newest Houston partners enable the firm to offer a broader suite of finance, transactional and tax expertise to our existing and potential clients,” Roger Aksamit, T&K’s Houston office leader, said in a statement.

Humphrey has significant experience handling energy projects, including oil and gas, petrochemical, power, renewables, energy storage, and carbon capture and mineralization projects.

He is currently working on a $2.5 billion petrochemical facility in Louisiana and a solar power purchase agreement in Mexico. Last year, he completed a Texas methanol project refinancing.

After graduating law school from the University of Florida in 1994, Humphrey worked for a couple of years as a foreign legal consultant at Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C., where he advised Fortune 500 companies doing business in Mexico. He then worked at T&K for a brief eight-month stint before moving to Andrews Kurth, where he practiced for almost two decades. In 2016, he joined Orrick.
