Winston & Strawn announced this week that Houston energy litigation partner Michael Murphy has joined the firm.
Murphy was previously the managing partner of the K&L Gates Houston office. The 2005 Harvard Law School graduate defends clients in litigation involving toxic torts, including claims of asbestos and benzene exposure, environmental claims and other catastrophic events.
“Michael’s skillset and experience perfectly complement other recent additions in Houston [M&A partners Mike Blankenship and Eric Johnson], mirroring the increasing demand we are seeing from our energy sector clients for both litigation and transaction counsel,” Winston & Strawn Houston Managing Partner Doug Atnipp said in a statement.
In addition to his billable work, Murphy has handled a number of pro bono matters. He obtained asylum from India for a Muslim asylum-seeker on the grounds of religious persecution and tried more than 15 jury trials to verdict as a volunteer prosecutor for the City of Houston.
