Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton bolstered its intellectual property team in Texas this week by landing veteran Vinson & Elkins partner Steve Borgman in Houston.
Borgman, who was at V&E for almost 35 years, is a registered patent attorney who has deep experience counseling on mergers and acquisitions, license and technology agreements, and freedom-to-operate opinions. He also prosecutes patents and handles IP litigation matters. He joins Kilpatrick Townsend’s mechanical and medical devices team.
“Kilpatrick Townsend has a robust IP platform that complements my practice and the needs of my clients,” Borgman said. “Additionally, I am looking forward to growing the firm’s IP practice in Texas and continuing to build on the firm’s energy practice.”
Borgman said one exciting matter he handled in the past year was a client’s acquisition of the software and IP assets relating to “computer vision” technology that has the potential to help automate a lot of oil and gas operations and improve safety on the rig site.
“My clients never cease to amaze me with the clever inventions they develop,” he said.
