Mayer Brown has tapped one of the Big Four for its latest Houston hire.
The law firm has added Greg Matlock, who was EY’s Americas Energy and Resources Tax leader, as a partner. He will serve as the global co-leader of Mayer Brown’s Tax-Energy group.
Matlock said it is “incredibly appealing” to help differentiate the firm in the energy market. Mayer Brown Houston Office Managing Partner Neil Wasserstrom added that Matlock will play a “pivotal role” in strengthening the firm’s brand in the Houston tax market, particularly as it aims to grow its tax planning practice.
At EY, Matlock specialized in energy taxation and public monetization transactions, such as helping companies go public as MLPs or as C corporations. He has led tax efforts related to investments and transactions in oil and gas, mining and metals, power and utilities and renewable energy.
Matlock practiced at Fulbright & Jaworski before his nearly 11-year tenure with EY.
