Baker Botts boosted its corporate department this week by adding Houston energy transactions partner Brad Honeycutt from Simpson Thacher.
Prior to his two-plus years as counsel at Simpson Thacher, Honeycutt was the senior vice president and general counsel at Houston-based oil and gas private equity portfolio company Castleton Resources, where he sourced and executed oil and gas transactions.
Honeycutt represents private equity sponsors and management teams in acquisitions and divestitures of upstream and midstream oil and gas assets, alternative oil and gas financings and joint venture transactions.
He was part of the Simpson Thacher team that advised JPMorgan Chase Bank last year on DIP loans made to Sable Permian Resources in connection with the company’s restructuring. In 2019, he was involved in the financing for WPX Energy’s $2.5 billion acquisition of EnCap Investments-backed Felix Energy.
“Brad will add even more scale to our energy transactional practices,” Baker Botts Managing Partner John Martin said in a statement. “Given his extensive relationships with strategics and sponsors in the oil and gas industry, he will also play an important role in further expanding our private equity practice.”
Honeycutt started his career at Vinson & Elkins in 2009 after receiving his law degree from Emory. He has also worked at Jones Day.
