Blue Peak Fiber, a high-speed internet service in the Midwest, has hired Houston lawyer Marc Krasney as its first vice president of legal affairs.
Krasney, who started his new position Monday, had served as general counsel at Houston-based internet provider Pure Speed Lightwave for more than seven years.
Based in Denver, Blue Peak specializes in providing high-speed internet, telephone and TV service in 20 markets in seven states, from Oklahoma to South Dakota and Minnesota to Wyoming.
A 1999 graduate of the South Texas College of Law and now an active leader with the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Houston Chapter, Krasney will continue to live and work remotely from Houston. He is Blue Peak’s first full-time in-house counsel.
“I was in my home office and happy with where I was at PS Lightwave when I received one of those LinkedIn notes about the Blue Peak position,” Krasney said. “Usually, I just deleted those, but the position was exactly the kind of work I do and the company was appealing because of its super growth trajectory.”
Krasney said Blue Peak is offering high-speed internet to communities that still only had dial-up service. All of the interviews, he said, were done remotely and he has yet to meet any of the 440 employees of the company.
“The good news about the company being headquartered in Denver is that I can escape the Houston heat during the summer months,” he said.
The owner of an Indian Chief Vintage motorcycle, Krasney said riding his bike is a great way of dealing with stress.
“The bike is pretty bad-ass,” he said.
