(April 23) – Akin Gump recently announced the addition of MLP tax expert Alison Chen to its Houston office. She joins as a partner from Andrews Kurth.
Chen said she has worked with many of Akin Gump’s energy and tax attorneys over the years.
“I have always been impressed with the depth of their global presence and the deep footprint in the energy space,” she said.
Recently, Chen worked on the $6 billion merger of Oiltanking Partners, LP with Enterprise Products Partners. In another 2014 deal, she represented the underwriters in connection with the IPO of JP Energy Partners LP and Dominion Midstream Partners LP.
“Alison is one of a very few highly qualified MLP tax lawyers, who brings a skillset that is in great demand,” Akin Gump Chairperson Kim Koopersmith said in a statement. “Her joining the firm adds significant depth to our energy practice, where a background like hers is so critical for serving the needs of our clients.”
Chen says she is closely monitoring what the IRS decides in issuing guidance that will further clarify the extent to which services provided by contractors to others in the oil and gas industry will qualify for MLP treatment.
“This is particularly relevant to our clients in the energy services sector,” she said.
