(June 21) – Akin Gump gave a boost to its tax practice in Houston by announcing this week the arrival of new partner Jocelyn Tau.
Hunton Andrews Kurth was Tau’s previous firm. She had been at Andrews Kurth before the combination with Hunton & Williams and made partner in April shortly after the merger was announced.
“Akin Gump has positioned itself for growth in a market that has been going through a lot of changes,” Tau said about her move. “I’m excited about expanding the breadth and depth of my practice, building on the strong reputation in the energy space that has been developed by the firm’s energy and tax teams.”
Tau specializes in matters related to the taxation of master limited partnerships (MLPs), private equity transactions and structures, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations and capital market transactions, particularly within the energy industry.
At the end of May, Tau was on the team advising on a $500 million private placement by Denver-based oil and gas explorer Jagged Peak Energy.
Tau says the impact of tax reform makes it an exciting time to be a tax lawyer.
“We have been advising clients as to the ramifications of tax reform on everything from entity classification to capital structure,” she added.
“With her extensive knowledge and deep background advising on complicated deals, Jocelyn will be highly sought out by our clients, and I am delighted to welcome her to Akin Gump,” Kim Koopersmith, the firm’s chair, said in a statement.
