(July 15) – Alston & Bird has strengthened its healthcare practice in Dallas by adding Frank Sheeder as a partner, the firm recently announced.
Sheeder, who was most recently the chair of DLA Piper’s national healthcare enforcement and compliance practice, says he was impressed by Alston & Bird’s breadth and depth nationally in healthcare.
“The more I learned about Alston and its extensive health care capabilities, the more I excited I got,” he said. “I’m intent on building a healthcare litigation team in Dallas.”
Sheeder has nearly 30 years of experience in defending clients against civil and criminal fraud allegations brought by the government and other third-party litigants such as whistleblowers. He is currently involved in a federal government investigation and a state government investigation.
“Frank is held in high esteem by the market both here in Dallas and nationally as a healthcare litigator whose credentials and experience are second-to-none,” Darren Hauck, partner-in-charge of Alston & Bird’s Dallas office, said in a statement.
Sheeder, a past president of the HealthCare Compliance Association, says the relationships between hospitals and physicians face continued pressure and scrutiny in light of numerous Stark law cases the government has brought in recent years.
In another developing trend, Sheeder says there is “burgeoning state enforcement relating to Medicaid issues as states sustain additional fiscal pressure engendered by healthcare reform.”
