(Oct. 24) – AT&T General Counsel David McAtee, Associate General Counsel John J. O’Connor and a team from Sullivan & Cromwell are leading the communications giant’s efforts to acquire Time Warner Cable for $85 billion.
McAtee and O’Connor are based in Dallas.
McAtee joined AT&T in 2012 after 16 years as a trial lawyer and antitrust specialist at Haynes and Boone. Last October, he was promoted to executive vice president and general counsel when long-time GC Wayne Watts retired.
A 1984 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, O’Connor is a senior vice president over AT&T’s mergers and acquisitions efforts. He also has a master’s degree in tax law from Emory University.
O’Connor came to be with the AT&T corporate legal department through a series of mergers. He joined Atlanta-based BellSouth in 1989 as a general attorney. He became chief tax counsel of Cingular Wireless in 2000 and officially became an associate general counsel over M&A at AT&T in 2008.
AT&T has used New York lawyers from Sullivan & Cromwell to lead its larger M&A transactions.
