Brooks Igo is the publisher of The Texas Lawbook. He graduated from SMU, where he studied business and journalism. Two months after the launch of The Lawbook and the beginning of his last semester at SMU, Brooks interned with Mark, Sally and The Lawbook. After joining the team full-time, he has worked to build relationships in the Texas legal community and help grow the publication’s readership to more than 13,000 subscribers.
Brooks is on the steering committee for the Dallas chapter of the Legal Marketing Association’s Southwest Region; serves on the boards of The Well Community and the Salvation Army Oak Cliff Corps; and is a supporter of Advocates for Community Transformation (Act).
He, his wife Ashley, daughter June, and son Oliver live in Oak Cliff with their pack of rescue dogs and pig.

Baker Botts announced Monday the addition of David Applebaum, a former head of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, from Jones Day. It is the firm’s fourth lateral partner hire in Texas this year.

Cara Vasquez and Mark Waite are “complete opposites” on paper, but the unlikely duo decided to launch their own firm in 2024 focused on representing petrochemical and construction companies in litigation. Vasquez, who spent her entire career at DLA Piper, and Waite, who was a senior in-house lawyer at LyondellBasell before practicing at DLA for the past six years, launched Vasquez Waite on Jan. 1 and have been “way busier” than they anticipated.

The new lateral additions include Jennifer Ryback, who was head of McGuire Craddock’s litigation practice. Carrington Coleman has also added a senior associate from Winstead.
Terra Cothran has spent the past 25 years working on energy and construction projects in-house. She has been across the table from King & Spalding on numerous projects.
