Baker Botts became the first Texas-based law firm to announce year-end bonuses to associates.
The Houston-based firm, in a Dec. 2 memo by Baker Botts managing partner John Martin, said associates hired out of law school in 2021 will get a $20,000 bonus this holiday. The scale accelerates up to $115,000 bonuses for seven- and eight-year associates hired in 2015 and before.

Baker Botts joined national law firms with offices in Texas, including Baker McKenzie, Hogan Lovells, McDermott, Paul Hastings, Skadden and Willkie Farr.
“To be eligible for these bonuses, full-time associates and counsel must (a) be in good standing and actively employed at the firm on the date of payment; and (b) meet or exceed firm client billable and bonus-eligible hours targets for the bonus calculation period (December 1, 2021 through November 30, 2022), subject to applicable firm policies,” Martin wrote in the Baker Botts memo.
