(May 21) – Baker Donelson recently added depth to its litigation practice in Houston by bringing on Lori Hood, who joins as a shareholder.
Hood returns to the big law firm world after spending the past eight years at Johnson Trent LLP.
“I would like my clients to have confidence that if something happens to me, they will be taken care of,” she said.
The South Texas College of Law graduate is in the middle of a TCPA (“SLAPP”) case she has been working on the past two years where she says her client, John Moore, was the victim of defamation and antitrust actions by the Better Business Bureau.
In other recent cases, she obtained a $1.7 million jury verdict against University General Hospital for violating a management contract which the hospital alleged violated the Stark Act and a $2.3 million arbitration award against Houston-based Affordable Power.
One trend Hood is observing is the continual taking of confidential information or trade secrets.
“You can have the best non-compete in the world, but if it is not enforced by judges it is useless,” she said.
