Balch & Bingham has made its first lateral hires since opening its Houston office at the beginning of the year.
The Birmingham, Alabama-based law firm recently added partner Lloyd Lim and associate Rachel Thompson Kubanda from Reed Smith to its creditors rights and bankruptcy team. The move is yet another example of firms targeting restructuring experts as the bankruptcy bonanza in Texas continues.
“Being at the [Balch & Bingham] allows me to more fully serve our growing client needs as we continue to see the number of bankruptcy cases rise due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the continued deterioration of market conditions,” Lloyd said in a statement.
Lloyd, a graduate of SMU Dedman School of Law, has been involved in Chapter 11s in the energy, healthcare and retail industries. He primarily represents lenders, trade creditors, bondholders, indenture trustees, asset purchases, landlords and other strategic parties.
Balch & Bingham now has five lawyers in its Houston outpost.
