(April 8) – Barnes & Thornburg announced today that it has selected deal lawyer John Willding to launch its corporate transactional practice in Dallas.
Willding, who was previously at Strasburger & Price, is the ninth lawyer to join Barnes & Thornburg in Dallas since the office opened less than a year ago. He says he was attracted to the firm’s national middle market platform.
“I’ve been blown away by the client base of the firm,” he said.
He says the Indianapolis-based firm – like other Midwest firms – can be competitive on rates with local law firms. This is especially important for Willding, who primarily represents mid-size businesses.
“John is a natural deal-maker and excels when counseling companies on their growth and direction,” Mark Bayer, who is the firm’s Dallas office managing partner, said in a statement. “He works tirelessly to ensure clients are maximizing deal value at each stage of their life cycle.”
In December, Willding represented Houston-based Texas Teachers of Tomorrow, an alternate certification program provider for teachers, in a recapitalization by Gauge Capital.
One trend Willding noted in his practice is he is seeing more of his clients being acquired by private equity firms.
