After working on energy and construction projects for more than two decades in-house, Terra Cothran is joining her first law firm.
Cothran, who has been in the Bechtel Energy legal department for the last seven years, became King & Spalding’s latest partner hire in Houston on Thursday.
Her career has also included stops at Chevron, MEG Energy Corp., Halliburton and SNC Lavalin Group.
At Bechtel, Cothran was LNG commercial manager and senior counsel, where she negotiated and advised on upstream, midstream and downstream engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects.
“Many members of our team have collaborated with Terra on projects and been across the table from her in negotiations, so we know first-hand what a skilled and hard-working lawyer she is,” Scott Greer, head of the firm’s global construction transactional team, said in a statement.
Cothran received her Master of Laws in Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law from the University of Calgary and her J.D. from the University of Victoria. She is qualified to practice in Canada and will obtain her Texas licensure.
“I’ve been fortunate to have been on deals with many of my new colleagues before and am thrilled to now have the opportunity to work alongside them as a team to help the firm meet the growing demand for its EPC work,” Cothran said in the firm’s announcement.
Cothran is the seventh addition to King & Spalding’s Texas roster since the start of 2023. In December, the firm brought on Austin intellectual property litigation partner Alfonso Chan from McKool Smith.
