A trio of Houston energy litigation partners from Foley Gardere have moved their practices to Bradley Arant Boult Cummings.
Jeffrey Davis, Mary Elizondo Frazier and Peter Scaff held various leadership roles at Gardere prior to its merger with Foley. Davis and Scaff will co-chair Bradley’s oil and gas team, while Frazier will serve on the firm’s Texas Growth and Expansion Task Force.
Davis, who was a member of Gardere’s board of directors and a big proponent of the merger with Foley, said the decision to leave his former firm was “agonizing.” He said it made more sense for his team to be at a more regional firm.
“Foley is a great firm and I think the merger is great particularly on the corporate side,” said Davis, who practiced at Gardere for more than 20 years.
“After the merger, we realized the Bradley construction practice jives very well with the energy litigation practice the three of us have.”
The opportunity to build Bradley’s oil and gas litigation practice from the ground up with Frazier and Scaff was too good to pass up, Davis added.
At Gardere before the merger, Frazier was co-chair of the Associates Committee and Scaff was chair of the Compensation Committee.
Davis, a University of Houston Law Center graduate, represents energy companies in litigation involving catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, surface and downhole tool incidents, and royalty and mineral interest disputes.
Frazier focuses her practice on personal injury, premises liability, wrongful death and product liability litigation. She earned her law degree from the South Texas College of Law.
Scaff handles energy industry disputes concerning joint operations, areas of mutual interest, lease acquisition, trade secrets, seismic licensing, supply chain, construction, and manufacturing. He also received his J.D. from the University of Houston.
Bradley – a law firm based in Birmingham, Alabama with more than 500 lawyers across nine locations – arrived in Houston in 2016 and now has 19 attorneys in the office.
