Sidley Austin continued to grow its one-year-old Houston office with the addition of capital markets lawyer Timothy C. Langenkamp, who will become the office’s thirtieth lawyer. Langenkamp, who was previously a partner at Andrews Kurth, will join the firm as a partner in its securities/capital markets practice group.
The University of Houston Law Center graduate focuses his practice on representing underwriters and issuers in debt and equity capital markets transactions, with a particular emphasis on offerings by master limited partnerships (MLPs). He also counsels clients on securities law compliance, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other general corporate and securities matters.
There are three particularly hot trends affecting MLPs at the moment, he says: efforts to broaden the asset class to include renewable energy plays, environmental concerns about hydraulic fracturing and lower commodity prices, particularly relating to natural gas and natural gas liquids.
Langenkamp says his favorite deals are IPOs by MLPs because they take time to pull together due in part to the complexity of the tax rules.
“I enjoy getting to know the MLP’s business during that process, as well as working with management, bankers and lawyers to get the deal done,” he said.
Langenkamp has represented clients in the following industries: energy, energy services, software and online web and application services.
