There’s consensus among many Austin, Dallas and Houston dealmakers: Transaction activity is only set to increase in the second quarter; investors are chomping at the bit to deploy a record amount of dry powder; and SPACs aren’t going anywhere. Those were some of the takeaways in an informal survey of Texas-based lawyers from more than a dozen firms over the past few weeks.

When asked to break down the vigor with which institutional investors and family offices are seeking to move capital, a few lawyers cited potential changing policies that could hit as soon as summer from Washington. Others simply noted that folks were looking forward to putting their money to work for more viable, if not even riskier returns – especially after a cautious spring last year.
