Global M&A isn’t the only thing that slowed down in the second quarter (see this space last week). Private equity also experienced a slide in activity in the period, according to Preqin.

The data provider said almost 4,000 funds are now competing in a congested market for money-raising even as the number of funds reaching a final close is falling. And on the deals side, the buyout and venture capital markets have slackened in the first half of the year.
