By Brooks Igo
(June 1) – Baker & McKenzie recently announced corporate and securities pro Lee McIntyre has returned to the firm’s Houston office as a partner after two years of running his own private venture called McIntyre LLC.
McIntyre said it was a “simple decision” to return to his old firm.
“Baker & McKenzie is the No. 1 cross-border deal firm and the firm has a very strong transactional practice in Houston and on a global scale,” he said.
In the past year, McIntyre represented a NYSE-listed Houston-based client in a private acquisition of a manufacturing multinational with operations in Latin America and around the Mediterranean.
He says one of the appeals of cross-border work is that it allows for the opportunity to provide “end-to-end” service to his Houston-based multinational clients. He believe this can serve to develop better long-standing relationships with clients and colleagues around the world.
“Today, almost every substantial deal is cross-border in nature or involves business operations in more than one jurisdiction,” he said. “Cross-border transactions can be more challenging due to differing local legal requirements that may be counterintuitive to a domestic practitioner, and together with differences in time zones, cultures and languages, these factors can affect deal timing and potentially erode deal value if not handled appropriately.”
