Advocates for Community Transformation (Act), a Dallas nonprofit that helps individuals use the justice system to fight crime on their street, has received a $20,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to expand its legal advocacy program into South Oak Cliff.
Act announced the gift this month. Since 2009, more than 200 Dallas families have worked with Act and their law firm partners to shut down more than 150 crime-ridden properties. The crime rates in these neighborhoods – in West and South Dallas – have experienced up to a 50% drop, according to data provided by Act.
In addition to working with prominent Dallas law firms, Act partners with the Dallas Police Department, the City Attorney’s Office and local neighborhood associations.
