DBA Announces Philbin Award Winners

(Sept. 23) – The Dallas Bar Association honored the winners of the 33rd Annual Stephen Philbin Awards for best legal news reporting today at the Belo Mansion.

Texas Monthly reporter Michael Hall took home the grand prize for his article “The Outcast,” which chronicles the life of a man who lived almost 20 years as a convicted sex offender.

Jennifer Emily, a reporter for The Dallas Morning News, won the Philbin for Metropolitan/Statewide Spot News. She also was honored with her colleague Diane Jennings for the Metropolitan/Statewide Series of Articles category.

Jess Davis and Jocelyn Allison of Law360 received the award for Electronic Media News/Feature.

The award for Magazine Feature Article went to Mary Mapes of D Magazine.

Amy Martyn of the Dallas Observer was selected as the recipient for Metropolitan/Statewide Newspaper Feature.

The KDFW-TV team of Lori Brown, Vicki Chen, Glenn Dickson and Bob Hawman received the Philbin for Radio/Television News Report.

Finally, Kathy Cruz of Hood County News was honored for the category Suburban Newspaper Article.
