(Sept. 29) – Former Winstead litigation leaders Brian Vanderwoude and Jay Madrid have jumped to Dorsey & Whitney to become the first litigators in the Minneapolis-based firm’s Dallas office.
Dorsey & Whitney entered the Dallas scene in March with a team of lawyers from Schiff Hardin. Vanderwoude and Madrid join as partner and of counsel, respectively.
“It is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor,” Vanderwoude, a former head of Winstead’s DFW litigation practice, says. “We will handle all of the firm’s litigation matters in Texas.”
Vanderwoude noted an additional plus is that he gets to continue working with Madrid, whom he considers “one of the finest lawyers in the state.” Madrid was co-chair of Winstead’s fiduciary litigation practice and a former leader of the Texas firm’s litigation section.
An SMU Dedman School of Law alumnus, Vanderwoude says he and Madrid have handled some of the largest trust and estate battles in Texas. They are getting ready for an $80 million trial in October.
