Baker McKenzie has a longstanding history working with companies in Texas. We have full service offices in Dallas and Houston with approximately 130 lawyers in-state. We are proud of two recent milestones — Dallas marking its 30th anniversary in 2016 and Houston celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Growth
Since 2014, Baker McKenzie has grown by nearly 30% in Texas. Both offices have focused on strategic growth based on client needs and have expanded practices in energy, corporate/M&A/securities, intellectual property, tax and franchising. Recent and notable new hires include Dyan House, an intellectual property lawyer with experience in trademark, copyright and franchise matters, and Denmon Sigler, an energy partner with more than 17 years of experience advising clients globally on transactions.
Deals & Cases
A few notable recent transactions led by the Firm’s Texas partners:
- Advised Cardtronics Inc., the world’s largest ATM provider, on its redomiciliation from Delaware to the United Kingdom, one of the largest and most complex transactions in the company’s history.
- Represented 3D market leader RealD Inc. in its patent infringement action against competitor MasterImage at the International Trade Commission. The Commission issued cease and desist orders directed at MasterImage.
- Advised Baylor College of Medicine in its joint venture with Miraca Holdings Inc., a Japan-based international health care company. The college and Miraca now jointly own and govern a clinical genetics diagnostic laboratory located in Houston’s Texas Medical Center.
Community
Helping communities where we operate is an integral part of Baker McKenzie. Last year, we partnered with Weatherford and Texas Appleseed to create The Texas Homeless Youth Handbook (www.homelessyouth.org), a guide to help homeless youth better understand their legal rights, responsibilities and resources. A team of more than 50 lawyers and staff dedicated hundreds of hours to research, write and edit the book. We are also very active in community service. As an example, our Houston office has “adopted” as its main charity, both for financial and volunteer support, The Woods Project (www.thewoodsproject.org), a nonprofit that develops leadership and life skills in low income youth through wilderness education programs.
