In 2016, the lawyers in Latham & Watkins LLP’s Houston office continued to earn their reputation for getting deals done. The 80+ lawyers advised on completed transactions with an aggregate value of more than US$178.4 billion last year, including capital market transactions, mergers, acquisitions and refinancings.

With a strong pipeline of deals, Latham has been representing clients in more than US$42.9 billion of capital markets transactions, including work on five of the six oil and gas market initial public offerings (IPOs).  In addition, representing principals and financial advisors in more than US$96 billion worth of announced mergers and acquisitions, and representing borrowers and lenders in more than US$27.2 billion of bank finance transactions.

The Latham lawyers in Houston have a history of advising clients — including traditional energy companies, private equity funds, investment banks and commercial lenders — through the typically dynamic and sometimes volatile oil & gas market fluctuations.

After a two-year period without an exploration and production IPO, Latham’s Houston office represented the underwriters in the Extraction Oil & Gas, Inc. IPO, signaling an increased demand for energy company shares in the marketplace.

Other stand-out 2016 deals included: representing Rice Energy Inc. in their US$2.7 billion acquisition of Vantage Energy and Vantage Energy II, which created one of the largest and most concentrated core dry gas acreage dedications in the Marcellus Shale; and advising Southwestern Energy Company in their US$1.9 billion refinancing.

Latham’s Houston office is dedicated to pro bono work, handling  more than 40 estate and end-of-life matters amongst other volunteer work in 2016. This is in line with the firm’s global commitment to providing world class legal representation to underserved clients in the communities where the firm works.
