Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP – Major 2016 Accomplishments in Texas
2016 was a banner year for Weil’s Texas offices, and 2017 promises even more to celebrate, including the Dallas office’s 30th anniversary.
Last year, Weil’s Texas attorneys were involved in many of the region’s and nation’s most significant transactions, financings, litigation and restructurings, including representing:
• Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn co-founder and executive chairman, in LinkedIn’s $26.2 billion sale to Microsoft;
• Oracle in its $9.3 billion NetSuite acquisition and back-to-back acquisitions of Textura and Opower, which together totaled $1.2 billion;
• Gores Holdings in a transaction with Hostess Brands valued at approximately $2.3 billion;
• PACE Holdings in its Playa Hotels & Resorts business combination valued at approximately $1.75 billion;
• Perella Weinberg in its combination with Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co.;
• ENGIE North America (f/k/a GDF SUEZ Energy North America) in its $1.2 billion sale of FirstLight Power Resources Holdings to Public Sector Pension Investment Board, and the $3.3 billion sale (and related reorganization) of its electric generating plant portfolio to Atlas Power Finance;
• CHC Group in its Chapter 11 filing and subsequent restructuring; and
• Paragon Offshore in its Chapter 11 reorganization to eliminate $2.4 billion of debt and re-focus its core business.
Weil and its Texas attorneys also earned numerous accolades, including recognition as the Oil & Gas Awards 2016 Texas Law Firm of the Year for its high-stakes energy industry work.
Weil welcomed Litigation partner Paul Genender to the Dallas office, and Dallas-based Tax attorney Jonathan Macke was elected to the Firm’s partnership – one of 13 new partners worldwide.
In the community, Weil continued its long commitment to the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, sending its 11th Lend-A-Lawyer to work full-time on pro bono matters for indigent clients. Weil’s 4th “Dodge for a Cause” dodgeball tournament brought together over 30 Dallas companies for a spirited competition raising $72,000 for the Vogel Alcove and its services for homeless children.
