Stephen Olson has joined the transactions practice group in the Houston office of Foley & Lardner.
The firm said Olson – who had been with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher since August 2020 – enhances its private capital capabilities and his appointment continues the expansion of its national energy and infrastructure practice. Foley has its headquarters in Milwaukee.
“We continue to see significant opportunity in serving clients whose business strategies are shaped by private capital, so we are focused on strengthening our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of investors and their portfolio companies,” Foley Chairman and CEO said Daljit Doogal said in a news release. “Stephen brings deep deal experience, a strong sponsor-side perspective, and a practical understanding of how companies pursue growth and value creation. This commercial insight will undoubtably help our clients achieve their strategic objectives.”
Foley said Olson advises private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, public and private companies and investment banking firms. His practice focuses on M&A, divestitures, joint ventures, registered offerings, private placements of debt and equity securities and corporate governance.
He also represents private equity firms, energy and industrial companies, as well as clients in chemicals, manufacturing, health care, technology, financial services, media and telecommunications.
“Foley has developed an impressive offering for capital provider clients, particularly in areas where transactional strength and sector knowledge are both essential,” Olson said in a news release. “The firm’s strength in private capital and energy and infrastructure create a compelling opportunity to help clients pursue sophisticated investment strategies and navigate the full lifecycle of their businesses and assets. I’m excited to join a team with this depth of talent, market focus, and collaborative approach.”
Born in Marietta, Georgia, Olson studied banking and finance as an undergraduate at the University of Georgia. He earned a JD at the University of Texas in 2006 and worked for Baker & Hostetler in New York before joining Jones Day in Houston in 2015. Olson was named partner-in-charge of the Jones Day Houston office in January 2019.
