Former Texas Third Court of Appeals Justice Scott Field has joined Butler Snow’s Austin office, the firm announced on Tuesday.
Field, a Republican, lost his reelection bid for the Austin appellate bench to Democratic challenger Chari Kelly in November. He authored more than 900 opinions during his six years on the court, according to his Butler Snow bio.
Prior to being elected to the Third Court of Appeals, Field helped start two boutique law firms. The University of Texas School of Law graduate started his career in private practice at Baker Botts in 1996 after clerking for the Honorable Raul Gonzalez of the Texas Supreme Court.
Field is the latest addition this year to Butler Snow’s Austin office. The Mississippi-based law firm picked up five litigators – four from Beck Redden and one from Bowman and Brooke – last month.
