Former Baker Hughes Chief Compliance Officer Moves to Willkie

May 23, 2019 Brooks Igo

Jay Martin has left his post as vice president, chief compliance officer and senior deputy general counsel at global oilfield services provider Baker Hughes to join the Houston office of Willkie Farr & Gallagher as senior counsel, the law firm announced this week.

A “dean of compliance in the energy industry,” Martin has led and directed the Baker Hughes global compliance program, which included identifying and abating policy compliance and legal and regulatory risks, for the past 15 years.

“Jay’s decades of experience managing complex, multinational compliance matters have made Jay a go-to resource for senior executives including those in the energy sector,” Bruce Herzog, managing partner of Willkie’s Houston office, said in a statement. “Having someone with Jay’s credentials on the ground in Houston will be immediately accretive to our existing, well-known compliance practice in the US and UK.”

Martin, a past winner of the Texas General Counsel Forum’s prestigious Magna Stella Award, was a partner at Winstead, Phelps Dunbar and Andrews Kurth prior to joining Baker Hughes. He has also served as assistant general counsel of Mobil Oil Corporation’s Worldwide Exploration and Production Division in Virginia and as general counsel at Mobil Natural Gas in Houston.
